Building History

This was another property that once was part of the original Everett farm and passed from the Everett family to James Morgan in 1852 and then to Andrew J. Sargent in 1885. The whole property was purchased by Fred A. Pressey in 1924, who gradually sold off pieces to be developed.

This piece was sold to Ausbon Waterman Sargent (1891-1988) in 1930. "Work has begun on the new home which Ausbon Sargent is to build on Main St. near the home of Robert Knight."[1] Sargent, who worked in the maintenance department of Colby Junior and then Colby-Sawyer College, married Katherine Morse (1890-1971) in 1915. They had one daughter, Lois (1917-1976). He is well known for purchasing what is now the town common from the college and donating it to the town in 1985. The Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust is named in honor of him.
